Life With Diabetes

~ life with diabetes ~

The journey of a life with diabetes is a long personal one. Life With DiabetesThere are a number of queries and situations that come up in a patient’s life while trotting on this difficult path. The patients require information, education, support and self-management skills throughout the journey. They also require prescribed medication, monitoring and regular review. This journey is a joint venture between the individual, his near and dear ones and a team of health professionals.

A few practical advice on healthy eating is eating lots of vegetables and fruits. The patient’s dish is suggested to have a variety of food. So one must try picking from the rainbow of colors available. Non-starchy vegetables such as spinach, carrots, broccoli or green beans mist be included in the meals. Include fish in your meals 2–3 times a week. Always remove the skin from chicken and turkey. Choose non-fat dairy such as skimmed milk, non-fat yogurt and non-fat cheese. Drink water as and when possible. One must avoid aerated drinks, regular soda or other kinds of sugar-sweetened drinks. Try to cut down the intake of high-calorie snack foods like chips, cookies and desserts like cakes and full-fat ice cream.

How To Self-Monitor

In countries like UK and many other developed ones for that matter, most patients with diabetes get free prescriptions, and the cost of this activity is therefore borne largely by the state. In countries without such a system, the cost is likely to fall on the individual, and any benefits may then add to health inequalities. If the patient prefers self medication in such cases, one must remember, those taking insulin are far more likely to benefit than patients treated with life-style measures alone or oral medication.

One of the most valuable things that can be offered to a diabetes patient in the early stages is developing of skills towards ‘self efficacy. ‘Self-efficacy’ is a key element to the success of behavioral change in diabetes and to have a happy life with diabetes. It is defined as an individual’s ability to take action and make changes. Self-efficacy is the basis for a number of diabetes management interventions, for example DESMOND, Diabetes Manual and DAFNE.

DESMOND (Diabetes Education and Self-Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed) it gives you educational knowledge about type 2 diabetes and is especially helpful to the people who have been recently diagnosed. The Diabetes Manual is also designed for type 2 patients. It is particularly designed for people who are uncomfortable in group sessions. It involves one to one education. DAFNE (Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating) is a training period of 5 days for people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It helps the patient to learn the accurate counting of carbohydrates and adjusting the doses of insulin according to their respective needs. It is suitable for well-motivated patients whose diabetes is less than adequately controlled.

Modern diabetes care needs to be patient-centered, recognizing that people are on the whole more likely to succeed in achieving targets if they themselves have formulated, or helped formulate, the management plan. While maintaining the standards that are common to all patients, the care must take care of individual needs too. Confident building to promote self-efficacy is important and deserves the necessary time and commitment particularly in the early stages after the diagnosis.

As long as we don’t share the same topic (here “Diabetes” and there “Software”) an alternate hyperlink contract is out of the question.
However, we thank you for your comment.
