Understanding Diabetes Type 1 In Children

~ Diabetes Type 1 In Children ~

Diabetes type 1 in children and youngstersDiabetes Type 1 In Children has been one of the most common chronic diseases, though cases of Type 2 diabetes are also on the rise. The main reason for diabetes in children is the lack of production of insulin by the pancreas. This causes the blood sugar to remain in the blood instead of being converted into energy.

Type 1 diabetes can be caused by a malfunctioning of the immune system of the body. This damage of the immune system would lead to destruction of the beta cells which produce insulin. The children diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes are usually thin and have suffered from recent weight loss. Some of the most common symptoms are frequent urination and remaining thirsty all the time. Studies show that out of so many children suffering from diabetes, only about 5% have somebody in the family who is already suffering from this disease.

There are many medications available in the market and prescribed by the doctors to treat this kind of diabetes. But apart from medication, there are also many factors which should be considered to control the blood sugar and to ensure that the child lives a happy life without any long term complications. To move towards a healthier life, the life style of the child needs to be changed.

The main objective of the treatment is to ensure that the sugar levels in the blood are within the normal range. Each child is unique and requires different treatment and medication. Some children may develop side effects to various drugs and the condition of the child may worsen. A balanced dose of the medication has to be decided upon by the health management team to ensure that the child is treated in the proper manner.

This type of diabetes is also called juvenile diabetes as it mostly affects the children below 10 years of age. The most common form of treatment is to inject insulin into the child more than one times to ensure that the blood sugar remains in control. The dose of insulin should be balanced so that the sugar does not get too low, and nor does it remain high.

The sugar level of the children should be checked more than once during the day to ensure that the normal level of sugar is maintained. For this a portable monitoring device should be kept handy so that the level of sugar can be checked instantly. Depending on the fluctuation in the sugar level, the dose of insulin can be adjusted.

Various exercises are also prescribed by the health management team to ensure that the child does not develop any more complications. A diet plan can also be framed so that the child does not develop bad eating habits and become a couch potato. If proper care is not taken, various complications like heart attack, hypertension, kidney stroke, nervous disorder, etc. can be developed. In order to ensure that the child remains fit and healthy, one has to take care of the diet and medication and ensure that the child remains healthy.
